What is "The Talented Tenth?"
"The Talented Tenth" is a concept that was coined and conceived by
W.E.B. Du Bois in the early 1900s in a prospectus he wrote entitled
The Study of the Negro Problems. DuBois
characterized The Talented Tenth as approximately 1/10 of (what we
now call) the African American population in the United States at
the time who were college educated. Du Bois charged this talented
1/10 of the African American population with the task of assisting
the other 9/10 of the African American population worth saving in
achieving similar academic and other success. Notwithstanding the
audience that the name of this matchmaking service targets, The
Talented Tenth Connection welcomes professionals, entrepreneurs or
otherwise busy, successful singles of all racial and ethnic
backgrounds as clients.
How can I be sure that the clients are marriage-minded?
As a qualified matchmaker, certified in matchmaking I carefully
screen all clients to determine that they are interested in forming
meaningful long term relationships. I sometimes decline certain
applicants to ensure that our clients meet other clients that share
the same interests and values.
Why would a successful individual with social skills join The
Talented Tenth ConnectionSM?
In today’s society, it is difficult for a busy, highly successful
individual to meet people outside of their work environment and
social circles. Many people are weary of patronizing the bar, club,
and party scenes, but still wish to be introduced to a substantive
person with similar interests and values, which is what this service
is all about.
What is a typical female client like?
She is attractive, educated, between 21-50 years of age, successful,
marriage-minded and wants to meet someone special with whom to share
life’s experiences.
What is a typical male client like?
He is between 25-50 years of age, attractive, educated,
forward-thinking and marriage-minded. Various male members, will
have different life goals and personality types as well as career
choices, so when discussing profiles with each client, we discuss
what matches are best suited for you both physically, personality
wise and substantively.
How many men can I really meet?
Based upon your subscription level, you can meet as many men as you
like. I will be looking for the man of your dreams as my main
objective, so you may not wish to meet more than a few men at a time
so you can spend some quality time with one or two of them.
What if I want to just meet someone and go out for an
evening or an event, but am not really ready for a relationship?
Prospective clients of
The Talented Tenth ConnectionSM should be seeking a
unique person to whom they can be committed. Individuals who are not
serious about becoming a part of a committed, long-term relationship
are not well-suited for the services provided by The Talented Tenth ConnectionSM.
How do you attract your clients?
I hope to attract most members through personal referrals. I will
sometimes advertise, and use personal recruiters who go out to
selected venues for the purpose of attracting suitable candidates
who apply to become members of the available pool.
Is there a minimum age I have to be to become a client?
Prospective clients must be at least 21 years old to become
a client of The Talented Tenth ConnectionSM.
How does the process work?
Through an initial phone call, I explain my services and determine
with the prospective client what they are looking for in a
potential match. Upon the prospective client’s decision that they
would like to move forward, a face to face meeting with me is
scheduled. During the meeting, additional details regarding The
Talented Tenth Connection’sSM services are discussed. Following the
meeting, the client signs an agreement that specifies a set number
of matches to whom they would like to be introduced. The fee will be
based upon the subscription level purchased by the client.
How does the background check work?
Verify-ED, the background check company used by The Talented Tenth
Connection, has a feature that lets each client enter his/her SSN
and DOB directly to its system. When the search request is entered,
the client will be instructed to select the "Applicant Must Enter
SSN/DOB" radio button, the system will send your client an email
message with a login, password and link to their system. Clients can
then log into the Verify-ED system and enter the information. When
the information is entered in to the system it will become part of
the search request. The information does not print on reports that
are made available to The Talented Tenth Connection. Verify-ED
assures my clients that their information is only used for the
verification process and confidentiality is upheld.
